Frostgravery

The Draugr have been awoken! The LOTR army of the dead now have some reinforcements. The non LOTR minis are warlord celts with mantic ghoul and GW skeleton heads. These guys feel a little like the Game of Thrones white walkers and zombies.

I wish I took a WIP picture of this rubble pile.  It's made from a cardboard base, one folded up piece of paper towel covered in a little water then PVA, irregularly cut cork tile pieces, and wooden coffee stirrers.  

This model's helmet was bugging the crap out of me.  The aventail was suffering from serious wind flow, and this slowly advancing model did not seem like he would incur that type of wind.  So my novice green stuff skills were put to the test. After a little knife work the green stuff was applied.  One tip I utilized was the use of water to avoid finger prints.  Im quite pleased with the result

Here's a scratch built table from wooden coffee stirrers.  The beer barrel is a GW bit and was not glued on. Which was not done to ensure the tables variety of uses.

Cork terrain update and Horse Cart

Here's the newest picture of the cork terrain arch section. I added a railing with beads and coffee stirrers from starbucks. The cobble archway stones were made with hot glue by smearing the glue and then melting lines.

this is a dollar store baby carriage that comes with three of them in a pack.  popsickle sticks, coffee stirrers and thin cardoard were added to create the horse harness and drivers platform. Frostgrave Terrain Update

I completed a few pieces of terrain over the past two weeks. All the pieces were based on cardboard reinforced/textured with hot glue.

This is a Warhammer Age of Sigmar terrain piece. I quit like it, it reminds me of Skyrim's High Hrothgar and the Blades Sanctuary.  It is also mount on a piece of cardboard.

These were made from cork tile, which is very easy to work with. These are also mounted on cardboard.

I slapped some paint on this one real quick. I am quite pleased with it, and also pleased with how easy it was!

Ruined Rock Walls

I built these ruined walls from aquarium rocks and scrap mdf pieces. They're not the tallest ruined walls, but with the added height of the mdf they do the job.  

Here are the rocks used

The unpictured steps are my standard basing/painting techniques; add sand, prime black, drybrush the rock walls in a medium grey followed by a lighter grey drybrush, paint the sand/dirt dark brown, and drybrush a grey/tam. Flock and foliage were then added.

This piece uses a flatter aquarium rock, so they resemble slate.  The base is cardboard, covered with hot glue to give texture as well as strength. Some sand was added in various spots because the hot glue texture looks a little off by itself. Hopefully this will look like some cool ruined ground.

I've been painting random miniatures

My painting seems to be at its most aimless point. But despite my aimlessness, I am still painting figures, possibly even more then when I have an army or project to finish

three out of the five free frostgrave soldiers from the lichlord kickstarter.  Im pleased with their look, but I cant help but paint in Greens and browns.... oh well

These are nearly all black tree design (one GB dark age warrior and one GB unarmoured arthurian) figures mounted on pennies and nickels.  The models are from their celtic and medieval peasant ranges.  I especially like the celtic peasants.

The past month I've been playing Skyrim during the majority of my "me" time.  After replaying every major questline the game has to offer, and ending the Civil war in Skyrim, I realized how much I liked having Roman looking town Guards in a fantasy setting. As some Elder Scrolls fans know, Morrowind featured Roman/Imperial looking guards as well.  Romans ooze the look of Imperial power might and centralization.  I purchased the Roman starter Army on Ebay for a nicely discounted price around a year ago.  So the work on the first batch of these plastics has begun! As Im sure most of the wargaming community knows, the Warlord Romans are startlingly short. I created a slight remedy to their height by putting them on decently tall bases.  

As I mentioned previously I've been playing Skyrim. No foe is more notorious than the Draugr.  These Lord of the Rings army of the Dead figs are my attempt at Skyrim Draugr.  The leader's horns are from GW skeletons, and gives the model a further connection to the tougher horned Draugr Death Lords of Skyrim.

Frostgrave update

These pics were posted to the Lead Adventure forums some time ago.  My plate was full updating this blog, now with the addition of Lead adventure posting, I am in way over my head.

This first one is a new picture of the mostly completed Mongolian warband, I have some more Steppe/Silk road soldiers in the painting pile.  

This is a sneak peak of the next warband I plan on doing. Pictured below is the wizard.  Hes made from a  a Northstar cultist body, cultist arms and spear, GB Arab head, and the snake on the staff was donated to me by a buddy and is from the GW empire wizard plastic pack. This warband is at the back of the painting queue and may just be an augmentation to the steppe warriors as opposed to a warband in their own right.
